Vultures

Vultures they call them. Tall, muscular creatures dressed in tough leather scraps, yielding guns and with elongated faces that resemble crows. They make harsh screeching noises and scavenge anything they find. Their skin, cracked and flaky, is a violet colour. Their bulging eyes are stark yellow. They have been sent by the supposed 'government' to restore peace. Truth is, they are stupid. Radiation has corrupted these mindless creatures. Vultures do not keep the peace. I sat up in bed. The sun was beginning to rise, its rays splitting through the curtains. I yawned silently and blinked my tired eyes a few times. I stretched my arms and fingers. Fragile All feeling slowly returns to me, bringing with it an unbearable pain. My entire body aches from days of being starved. Voices, so many voices. There are so many different sounds crowding my brain, but I’m too weak to make them all out. The clearest sound is the constant bleeping of the machine to my left. I wish it would stop. I want it all to stop and leave me in peace; leave me to die. I can smell a variety of disinfectants, the scent of freshly cleaned bed sheets, a mixture of bleach and steel. Can’t open my eyes. Let me see where I am! Wait…maybe I’ve already passed away, maybe this is my punishment for all
